Clean technologies must for sustainable future

Staff Report ISB: A seminar on Cleantech Competition was jointly organized by Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in order to create awareness among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and startups to expand their commercial prospects through venturing in clean technologies.

FPCCI Vice President Hameed Akhtar Chadda enumerated that the SMEs and startup businesses were encountering various challenges in accessing finance for adopting clean technologies. He stressed that government should create policy incentives and come up with some instruments like innovative finance, clean technology development initiatives and suitable legal and regulatory framework in order to facilitate and encourage SMEs for going green and clean.

Addressing the seminar, Dr. Shaheena Waheed, National Programme Coordinator, UNIDO Pakistan threw light on the significance of clean technologies for SMEs and said that clean technology innovations have bright future in Pakistan and in global market. She stressed on the small-medium enterprises to focus on embracing clean technology innovations to fuel green industrial revolution in the country and achieve lucrative returns. She said UNIDO was looking to help Pakistani entrepreneurs with best ideas that address todays pressing energy, environmental and economic challenges.

Muhammad Hammad Bashir Saeed, Project Technical Expert Cleantech Pakistan Program, UNIDO gave a detailed presentation on Cleantech Competition and said Cleantech was a global competition focusing on encouraging the SMEs to come up with innovative ideas for addressing issues in the areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency, water efficiency and waste to energy and contribute to cultivate green industrial growth through adaptation of clean technologies.
