Climate change an alarm for food security

SIDRA SAIF ISB: The agriculture sector is not left safe either from climate change impacts that need timely measures to address the issue. The Ministry of Climate Change and World Food Programme (WFP) have formed a partnership to work in a collaborative manner to account for the wavering issues pertaining to agriculture, food insecurity with special mention of climate change.

Lolo Castro, Country Director WFP and Senator Mushahidullah Khan, Federal Minister for Climate Change agreed for this cooperation in a recently held meeting. Lolo Castro apprised that the goal of increasing the agriculture yield will only be achieved if climate resilient policies are devised so to make agriculture sector sustainable to natural disasters i.e. floods, hailstorms, torrential rains etc.

Mushahidullah Khan apprised WFP Country Director that government was well aware of the climate change impacts and was making climate resilient policies to protect various sectors including agriculture from them. He further said that production of climate resilient varieties of various crops was also important to shield from climate change impacts. Minister offered his full support to Country Director WFP which was warmly embraced by her.
