COMSTECH efforts for supporting Science and Technology Sector

COMSTECH organized a meeting of Inter Islamic Networks called for holding joint efforts to promote science and technology for bringing substantial progress

COMSTECH efforts for supporting Science and Technology SectorMeeting was attended by participants from seven networks belongs to Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and Jordan.

COMSTECH is  the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) established by the Third Islamic Summit of OIC held at Makkah, Saudi Arabia in January 1981. The main mandate of COMSTECH is to strengthen cooperation among OIC Member States in science and technology (S&T), and enhance their capabilities through training in emerging areas, undertake follow-up-actions and implementation of the resolutions of the OIC, and to draw up programs and submit proposals designed to increase the capability of the Muslim countries in science and technology (S&T). 

COMSTECH Coordinator General Dr Tariq Banuri emphasized the importance of science and technology education for the socio economic development of a country while addressing the inaugural session in meeting.

He remarked that the current condition of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member countries could be connected to lower quality of science and education.

He added that  the networks could play a very important role in implementation of Astana declaration of 1st OIC Science and Technology Summit 2017.

He stressed on active collaboration, shared learning, and pooling of resources for capacity building and advancement of science and technology Institutions.

The meeting was also addressed by the advisers of COMSTECH, Dr. M. Qasim Jan and Dr. S. Khurshid Hasanain.

The heads of the networks gave briefs about their activities and commitments towards promotion of science and technology in the OIC member states.
