REFERENCE YOUR editorial “Unnoticed but potential threat to human life”, the mentioned event of Warid office was really a frightening situation for all the shopkeepers and businessmen of nearby plaza. There is a press market next to Warid office which was very close on fire.

The day this incident occurred, I was in Lahore and when my staff told me about the fire which was almost touching my premises, I was quite upset. People around the Warid office rushed towards the burning building, some of them were pouring buckets of water on the fire; others were throwing sand and dust. It was a pitiable scene.

The fire did a great damage to the building, furniture and other valuable articles were reduced to ashes. The fire brigade brought the fire under control after full one hour long efforts. When the flames were controlled, the building was badly damaged. The van (which was fueling the diesel to Warid tower generators) and two cars were completely burnt.

But thank God there was no loss of human life. On inquiry it was found that diesel containers were being shifted to the rooftop for diesel generator, during which some diesel had spilt on a water motor on ground floor which caused fire.

A little mistake of the telecom operator staff caused a huge loss to others. The point to ponder is that who will compensate the victims?
