STAFF REPORT ISB: On the direction of the National Assembly Standing Committee on IT and Telecom, the technical committee comprising technical and legal experts and MNAs has started reviewing the proposed prevention of electronic crime bill 2015.

Minister for IT and Telecom Anusha Rahman has recently chaired the first session of “bill review meeting” here in Islamabad. Special Assistants to PM Khawaja Zaheer Ahmad, Barrister Zafarullah Khan, Maj (R) Tahir Iqbal, Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, Federal Secretary IT Azmat Ali Ranjha, PTA Chairman, Members Telecom and Law and other IT and legal experts attended the meeting.

In her remarks, the minister said that the committee will minutely analyze this Cyber Bill 2015 clause by clause in order to make it more compatible with National Action Plan devised to counter terrorism and militancy in the country.

It is no doubt a gigantic task and we have to have lengthy session of discussions, she said.

In view of the exaggerating terrorist threats in the country, the committee is reviewing the Cyber Crime Bill in order to make it consistent with the National Action Plan, the minister added.
