ACCORDING TO fresh statistics, every year about five million children in the developing states fall prey to water borne diseases or contaminated water while, in general, a large portion of these countries? population suffers from health problems associated with either lack of drinking water or due to the presence of microbiological contamination in water. This data also suggests that some of these human diseases break out through natural process like under-ground erosions. While the rest is the result of human activities like release of waste from chemical factories refineries, mines and mills to water channels that provide water to agriculture lands. Experts say a water contaminant is a substance. Furthermore, agriculture also contributes to contamination of water as many chemicals used in agriculture can peep into the water system. In terms of microbiological contaminants, many of them are found in human and animal biological waste. For this reason, water sources located too close to agricultural livestock may also become contaminated. Since water is capable of dissolving or suspending a tremendous variety of materials there is simply no way to get ?pure? water out of your faucet. Even distilled bottled water will eventually have some carbon dioxide from the air dissolved in it forming a weak acid. It has been observed that disinfectants are commonly used in the treatment process to kill microorganisms that may be present in the water. The levels of these disinfectants in water need to be regulated as they can have harmful effects on human health or go through chemical reactions in the water to create byproducts, which can be harmful if consumed. The majority of contaminants found in drinking water can also be linked to improper or excessive use of ordinary compounds like lawn chemicals, gasoline, cleaning products and even prescription drugs. While on the other side, many of the naturally occurring compounds are good for human health. Some minerals, like calcium and magnesium are essential to human health, and some reports indicate that drinking water can provide a dietary source for these minerals. Ensuring the quality of water could be possible through keeping the water reservoirs far away from agriculture lands or landfill sites; using glass bottle and filter the water at home using a water filter. The important factor behind all this negative situation has been the non-implementation of laws related to ensuring proper disposal of industries waste. This is not a big deal; but that needs a strong commitment; but when…..?
