STAFF REPORT KHI: The public and private sector agriculture enterprises a apart from focusing on innovation, RandD must also stress on imparting technical trainings at ground level intended for farmers in order to equip them with necessary skills mandatory for adapting technologies in the farms for improving the agriculture yields. Engro Foundation along with Engro Eximp Agri products held a highly informative and enriching System Productivity Innovative Rice Trainings project.


The Project Director said while commenting on the project, “The project aimed at acquainting farmers with advanced rice-wheat farming techniques which produce high yields that are disease and climate change resilient in terms of attributes taking food security at top”. As many as 12,000 farmers attended the trainings and absorbed maximum out of it as they were exposed to innovative techniques such as direct seeding of rice (DSR), alternate wetting and drying (AWD), optimum plant population management (OPPM), zero-tillage wheat sowing and quality harvesting of paddy.


The application of these technologies will help farmers in next season and the results will be enchanting.


The project was sponsored by the TVET Reform Support Programme, which is funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
