STAFF REPORT LHR: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) and various farmers associations have constituted a farmers think thank with the mandate of to work as an advocacy group to raise voice for the rights of farmers and advise the government in policy making in agriculture and livestock sectors.

The decision was taken at a consultative meeting co-chaired by UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, UAF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmed, PARC Chairman Dr Iftekhar Ahmad.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Talat said that a farmers-led think was the need of the hour for a better policy making in agriculture and livestock. He said that agriculture and livestock are the backbone of Pakistans economy.

At present, he said, the potential of livestock sector was untapped and it needed to be exploited with innovation and research. He said that this think tank will be an effective platform to protect the rights of farmers.

Prof. Dr Iqrar Ahmad was of the view that an independent think tank of farmers is a must to work in the interests of farmers and the country.

Various representatives of farmers gave their input and appreciated the UVAS and UAF for initiating such a platform for the betterment of farmers community.
