Final workshop for validation of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) inventories and development of action plans for POPs management in Pakistan

Workshop Objectives

  • Present the current status of the POPs inventories in Pakistan and validation.
  • To give an overview and discuss on action plan activity options for the POPs groups
  • To discuss individual action plans options and adopt to Pakistan circumstances
  • To introduce the link between POPs management and related SAICM key issues
  • To introduce the NIP guidance and the suggested structure of NIP

 

Expected Outcomes

At the end of the workshop, participants will have acquired:

  • Improved knowledge on inventory status and outcomes for the major POPs groups
  • Shared experience and POPs inventory – gaps and approaches to close gaps
  • Knowledge on major action plan activity options for managing POPs in the life cycle
  • Preliminary action plan drafts adjusted to the Pakistan circumstances
  • Progress of the POPs management will be facilitated as a result of:
    • Status, discussion and exchange on POPs inventory results and further development
    • Overview on options on persistent organic pollutants action plans
    • Discussion on options for action plan activities on persistent organic pollutants life cycle management.
    • Information on integration of POPs management within the larger frame of chemical management and waste management

 

Target Groups

The capacity building activity is targeted to: Steering Committee members, Thematic Task Teams members, industry related to POPs and waste management; PCB and other POPs stockpile owners; Academic Sector/ Research Institutions, NGOs working on POPs and hazardous chemicals

Methodology and Structure

The workshop is intended to be participatory and interactive, making use of learning tools such as: interactive presentations and panel discussions and facilitated dialogue during breaks
