STAFF REPORT IBD: For very first time in Pakistan a global event of robot games is being held in LUMS by Science and Technology Awareness and Recognition for ALL (STARfALL) in partnership with FIRST and LEGO for the kids aged from 9 to 16.
STARfALL is a not-for-profit charity organisation registered in Pakistan focusing on the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) among the younger generation in Pakistan.
In line with its objectives, STAR has launched FIRST LEGO League (FLL) robotics programme. This is an initiative taken by some of US-based FAST-NU alumni and other expatriates to provide the same platform in Pakistan that children of more than 60 countries already have, says a press release.
Teams of children belonging to public and private schools are amongst 200,000 children around the world who have risen to the 2011-12 FIRST LEGO League (FLL) “Food Factor” Challenge.
Through hands-on experience and working in teams, children have a chance to explore real-world issues to gain an appreciation for interest in science and engineering. The winning team at the national level will be sent to the World Festival which happens in USA to represent Pakistan.
