IBM moves to prepare students for future jobs

STAFF REPORT KHI: IBM has announced an array of programmes and resources to help students and IT professionals develop new technology skills and prepare for jobs of the future. The initiatives include new training courses and resources for IT professionals, technology and curriculum materials for educators and expanded programmes to directly engage students with real-world business challenges.

With reference to the students in Pakistan, Adnan Siddiqui, Country General Manager, IBM Pakistan and Afghanistan, said that the Company has a clear roadmap for removing the skill gap between university students and the industry requirements in Pakistan.

“The IBM’s local Academic Initiative Programme continually assesses the current academic disciplines of various universities and helps integrate latest technologies in their course work,” he maintained and added that they want to develop a local industry ecosystem so that students are abreast with latest developments and are fully prepared to join any industry after their graduation.

It is to be mentioned here that IBM Pakistan works with several leading universities of Pakistan and has established a competency centre in one of them.

The ability to bring the latest enterprise technology directly into the classroom at no additional cost is critical in building skills, he concluded.
