IFAP National Committee Meeting lead by PASTIC under UNESCO

Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre (PASTIC) organized the first Information for all Programme (IFAP) National Committee Meeting under the umbrella of UNESCO on December 04, 2018.

The IFAP was established in 2001 by UNESCO with objective to build a free information society, focusing on information literacy, preservation and access to information, and the ethical & societal consequences of ICT developments.

Information for all Programme (IFAP) supports the development of methods and tools for building a free information society for lessening the gap between the information rich and information poor.

The very first meeting of the IFAP National Committee meeting had the following agenda; to Initiate Policy Dialogue on following IFAP priority areas, develop guidelines for information policy, Identification of major problems and challenges, Training in the field of communication and information, Role of media in promoting Information Literacy, Development in cyberspace.

The participants of the national committee deliberated on the statutes and constitution of the National Committee, and discussed the issues and challenges to be addressed by the committee.

Information for all Programme  is UNESCO’s response to the expectations of its Committee Members to build inclusive and sustainable Knowledge Societies.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Akram Shaikh, Director General, PASTIC and was attended by the Secretary General, PNCU, as well as representatives of the Ministry/ Information & Broadcasting, PTV, Radio Pakistan, Technology Times, IT & Telecom, Pakistan Science Foundation, COMSATS, Quaid-i-Azam University, Pakistan Museum of Natural History, Allama Iqbal Open University, etc.
