STAFF REPORT IBD: Information security has become a critical concern for Internet users and developers, and there is a dire need to have a methodology to build integrated systems to provide necessary protection of information at all levels. There must be a stronger partnership and dialogue among telecom authorities, national and international research organizations, engineers and network programmers to ensure protection of Internet users from cyber attacks.

These consensus views were expressed by experts during the recently concluded five-day 3rd international workshop titled Internet Security: Enhancing Information Exchange Safeguards. The event was jointly organized by COMSATS, ISESCO and INIT, ISET, Tunisia; and the COMSATS CIIT, in Nabeul, Tunisia, says a press note issued by the COMSATS headquarters in Islamabad.

In his speech on the occasion, Dr. Imtinan Elahi Qureshi, Executive Director COMSATS, said that Internet security is a common concern to all, which can only be addressed through enhanced international cooperation in this field.

He called for developing a global culture of cyber security through stronger participation of international organizations and also stressed the need for addressing ethical aspects of information exchange over Internet.

Atiq-ur-Rehman from INIT stated that information is the most important asset of any organization and needs to be protected.

Dr. Maha Merezak from ISESCO stated that the national policies must be oriented towards better practices to ensure Internet security.
