STAFF REPORT ISB: Dr. Ishfaq Ahmad, former chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Enegry Commission (PAEC) has said that forums like Pakistan Nuclear Society need to share information with the masses about the peaceful uses of nuclear power and disseminate this information in a systematic way.


He expressed these views while addressing the recently held investiture ceremony of newly-elected Council of Pakistan Nuclear Society (PNS) at the Comstech premises.


A large number of members and senior officials from PAEC, Nescom, KRL, PNRA, PSF, PAS, AIOU and other research and academic institutes were present on the occasion.


Earlier, newly-elected President of PNS Dr. Javaid Khurshid said that the PNS was established in 1992 to promote the awareness and understanding of the peaceful application of nuclear science, technology and allied disciplines in Pakistan.


Dr. Javed also said that the society can be useful to promote nuclear energy as part of nuclear mix and reducing greenhouse gas emission, bridge research and academia in this field, increase the visibility of nuclear research in the country, increase the political support for providing projects like agriculture, health and energy and to aware the society about the peaceful importance of this field.


The newly elected PNS council consists of Dr. Javaid (president), Dr. Ishtiaq Bokhari (vice president), Farhat Waqar (general secretary), Khalida Gill (finance secretary) and five executive members Dr. Arshad, Dr. Rahatullah, Dr. Abid Aleem, Fawad Mohyuddin and Zeeshan A Siddiqui.
