STAFF REPORT PSR: The Directorate of Science and Technology has recently commenced the project “Invigoration and Strengthening of Lab Teaching System (ISLTS)” in order to ensure that the message of science reaches every student of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Its main aim is to establish 24 model science labs in each district of the province basically in its high/higher secondary schools, says a press release issued here last week.

Its sole purpose is to demonstrate and motivate the science teachers and students as to how a science lab should be equipped for conducting practical experiments and to provide leadership in organizing science labs on proper scientific lines.

According to an official, the project is a way of building technical human capital from the grass root level which is much needed to support industrial development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. At present, 13 labs have been established in girls and 11 in boys schools. In collaboration with the Directorate of Education it has become possible to select the most easily accessible schools in each district.

The invigoration ceremony took place at Iqra National University by Mian Iftikhar Husain, Minister for Information and Culture, and Muhammad Ayub Ashari, the Minister for STandIT.

Training to Science/IT teachers has also been completed in all established 24 model science labs, where Science/IT teachers from entire districts were invited to participate.
