Information technology can play an influential part in boosting decreasing exports in Pakistan as it can line up the export-based industries on modern lines.

“IT Services contributed 17% in services for exports of $5 billion in 2016”, said Abdul Basit, President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) while speaking at a seminar on “IT Growth Opportunities” at the LCCI.

Right now, about 2000 software houses and call centers were working in Pakistan. “Various IT companies are providing services to the world’s famous entities but even with these Pakistan’s IT sector underwrites scarcely 0.2% in the global IT trade of around $500 billion not matching the potential of this vital sector,” he added.

Salman Hassan, director international marketing of Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) said that PSEB was undertaking research about Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector to promote IT industry. He said the board was also proposing improvements and modifications in Pakistan’s public policy for IT by studying IT laws and regulations of various competitor countries.
