Internet has completely transformed the things, most important the way we are living, our economical, political, industry-academia all the sectors revolutionized vigorously. The developing nation’s dire need is to take full advantage from this internet opportunity to flourish in urban as well as in rural communities. Keeping this in mind, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Universal Service Fund (USF) decided to organize a two-day Workshop on “Internet Access and Adoption” in Islamabad Pakistan.

The main objectives of the workshop is to explore both demand and supply side on both urban as well as rural communities, mostly preference is given to the rural Pakistan by identifying barriers to internet access and adoption and also identify the stakeholders and good practice programmers to take part in the digital transformation.

Workshop is organized to bring together governments, USF practitioners, innovators and financiers to look at what is needed to encourage the internet access and adoption flow to the rural areas.

To increase the use of latest technologies draw out lessons learned from existing efforts as well as explore new innovative solutions that could be used to form policy or develop models in the region. 

During the two day workshop the significance of emerging technologies like 5G, artificial intelligence, big data and blockchain are also being discussed.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) Sector playing a vital role in the sector of health, education, banking and now in digital transformation which is the current need.

Fifty per cent of the world’s population is connected to the Internet and estimated 3.8 billion people are unconnected to the internet and are very far from the innovations of the world.

Workshop on Internet access and adoption the delegates from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Indonesia, Malaysia, China and Bangladesh are participating to share their experiences.
