Japan to support Pakistan's agri-food, agro-industry

As the agriculture sector is helping hand of Pakistan’s economy. Seeing, the government of Japan announced grant assistance worth around 560 million Japanese Yen to UNIDO to support Agri-Food and Agro-Industry development in Pakistan.

Japan to support Pakistan's agri-food, agro-industryThe Japanese project agreement was signed between Mr. Shigeki Furuta, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Ms. Nadia Aftab, Country Representative, UNIDO.

The agri-food and agro-industry development in Pakistan aimed to enhance the productive and compliance capacities of the relevant sectors in the cattle meat and apple value chains across the two provinces.

The project mainly covers the significant areas of interventions, which will contribute to the development of the agriculture sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan to promote economic development, employment growth and alleviation of poverty and ultimately enhanced growth.

Ms. Nadia Aftab stated that, Government of Japan is an important deliberate partner and the prevalent contributor to our organization. Currently, there is a lot of work being done to promote the UNIDO-Japan partnership.

Considering this, the government of Pakistan appreciates Japan’s role as Pakistan’s key development partner over the years in various areas of agriculture sector, food security and food safety.

The honorable Minister, Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Sahibzada Muhammad Mehboob Sultan and Federal Secretary Dr. Hashim Popalzai, witnessed the event.
