STAFF REPORT FSD: FAISALABAD: Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi Inomata along with State Minister for Water and Power Ch Abid Sher Ali has inaugurated a project for upgrading mechanical system for sewerage and drainage services on Narwala Road, Faisalabad.The project has been funded by the government of Japan, which provided most advanced machinery, pumps and equipments worth Rs 1 billion for improving sewerage and drainage system of Faisalabad.

In his remarks, the Ambassador said that Japan had been continuously working over the last decade to improve water and sanitation in Faisalabad.

He said that the machinery provided by the Japanese government would help in capacity building of the Faisalabad Wasa regarding cleaning drainage system on scientific lines. He expressed hope that the Pak-Japan friendship would become stronger in future.

A project of provision of drinking water to most of the population of Faisalabad city is being completed at a cost of Rs 5 billion. Pakistan and Japan friendship has a long history. He assured full support to the JICA from the government of Pakistan.

Later, the Japanese ambassador while addressing the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI), said that Japan had signed trade agreements with the US, Australia, the EU, China and Korea but talks on formal trade agreement with Pakistan had not yet been started.
