STAFF REPORT ISB: The Japans National Graduate Institute of Policy Studies (GRIPS) and Higher Education Commission have agreed to collaborate for PhD Programme in Public Policy to better understand the nature of policy issues and predict their overall impact.


Both the sides agreed this during the recent visit of a GRIPS delegation to HEC headquarters.


The delegation, headed by Prof. Tetsushi Sonobe, recently visited Pakistan to promote its new five-year PhD Programme fully funded by the Japanese government. Target students are promising mid-career government officials.


The Programme, called G-cube, will equip its participants with a broad historical perspective, which will help them understand the nature of policy issues and predict their overall impact, strong analytical ability needed to develop insightful and effective policy issues and effective communication skills to convey ideas and opinions across languages, cultures, religions and nationalities.


The delegation shared with HEC the availability of PhD fully funded seats for mid-career government professionals.


On the occasion, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Executive Director HEC, also indicated possible collaboration between HEC and GRIPS for facilitating Pakistani scholars to earn doctorate degree in Public Policy.


Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed also apprised the delegation of various initiatives of HEC undertaken for human resource development and promotion of research, innovation as well as increasing access and ensuring quality.
