First ever seminar was organized by Khyber Medical University (KMU) on recent updates in pathogeneses of pre-eclampsia.

The event was arranged by the department of Biochemistry-Institute of Basic Medical Sciences in which health expert form different health houses like Leady Reading Hospital (LRH) Peshawar, Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC)

Army Medical College (AMC) Abbotabad and Kohat Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) participated and spoken about various aspect.  The major participants were the senior gynecologists of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Prof. Dr. Lubna Hassan directed the seminar. She said that pre-eclampsia is the most threatening form of hypertension during a pregnancy and can be fatal for both mother and child.

The experts said that Pre-eclampsia and other hypertensive conditions during pregnancy are a major cause of maternal and infant illness and fatality.

Ten million women develop preeclampsia each year around the world. Worldwide about 76,000 pregnant women die each year from pre-eclampsia and related hypertensive disorders. And, the number of babies who die from these disorders is thought to be on the order of 500,000 per annum.

It is important that pre-eclampsia is diagnosed and managed appropriately to prevent the condition progressing to eclampsia, a life-threatening complication that puts the mother at risk of seizure, stroke and even falling into a coma.

At the closing shields and certificates were awarded to the guest speaker and Chief Guest by Prof. Dr. Rubina Nazli chief organizer of the event and Dr. Zille Huma Director KMU-Institute of Basic Medical Sciences.
