Rainer Schmiedchen German Consular-General inaugurated the latest Cluster Computer machine at the University of Karachi (KU) International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) Dr Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD).

German Organization Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation has provided four-socket 4U rack-mounted server worth of Rs.2.5 million. Dr Zaheer Qasmi Associate Professor ICCBS was the acquirer of the grant to purchase this server.

Ingolf Vogeler along with German Consulate development and cultural attaché in Karachi was on the visit to ICCBS where he met with Dr Iqbal Chaudhary Director ICCBS and Professor Atta-ur Rahman, ICCBS Patron-in-Chief, the former federal minister for science and technology, and ex-chairman higher education commission. On this occasion, other members of ICCBS were also present. Later on, German officials, Prof. Iqbal Chaudhary, and Prof. Atta-ur Rahman discussed the issues of mutual interest.

Schmiedchen acknowledged the abiding collaboration between two countries. He said that the German government would fully support the Pakistan’s leading research establishment of ICCBS.

Iqbal Chaudhary and Professor Atta-ur Rahman said that this machine is of the finest engineering (Enterprise X-Architecture) with exceptional modular “book” plan, which makes it exceedingly fault tolerant.

They said that to study motion of the molecular at a larger scale the procurement of the machine will enable to carry out exhaustive Molecular Dynamics simulation to find out the motion of the molecule.
