STAFF REPORT KHI: Indonesian Agricultural Quarantine Agency (IAQA) has declared HEJ, Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi (KU) standard laboratory for pesticide residue testing of food ingredients.


After having a substantial research in Pakistan, the IAQA has taken this decision to comply with Indonesian import regulations. The Industrial Analytical Centre (IAC), offering unique service in Pakistan, works under HEJ, Research Institute of Chemistry, International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi.


Karachi University ICCBS Director Prof Dr Iqbal stated this while speaking at a meeting held at the international center.


“IAQA aims at protecting natural resources from invasion of animal and pest, and support implementation food safety inspection,” he said. “The IAC offers unique service in Pakistan to analyse the non-halal ingredients in foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical products. Scientists and analysts at the IAC ensure that they are free from chemical, biological or artificial additives, which do not, comply with Islamic law. In view of the current trend of applied research in food science and in trade, the ICCBS had established a Halal Testing Laboratory in its Industrial Analytical Center (an ISO 9000-2001 and 17025 facilities).”


He added that the objective of the establishment of this laboratory is to provide the industry and the government a platform to assist in fulfilling the role of an authentic testing laboratory.
