STAFF REPORT KHI: Kunar Pushaki gas field is expected to commence production of 100 mmcfd this month which would be equally distributed between both the gas distribution firms – SSGC and SNGP.

According to details, the Kunar-Pasakhi Deep (KPD) and Tando Allahyar integrated project is expected to produce a total gas of 285 mmcfd, 387 tons of LPG, and 4,500 barrels of crude oil which would be fully operative in 2013.

In order to control the gas shortfall, the government is considering the option of setting up Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) plants which is expected to add another 200mmcfd to the system for which tenders have been issued.

The total gas supply is around 4 bcfd whereas the demand remains higher at almost 6 bcfd, taking the shortfall to 1.8 bcfd particularly during the winter season.
