Land capability classification is a system of classifying land to indicate its suitability for cropping, grazing and forestry. There are eight land capability classes.

Land urbanization class I,II a global food security threat

Class I-IV are suitable for cultivated farming; classes V-VII are suitable for grazing or forestry; and class VIII is suitable only for recreation, not for any agricultural use.

Total area in world is 14892 mha and the total area of agriculture land in the world is 4973.4 mha that is 33.34%. As more people migrate from villages to cities that results in urban growth. Urbanization is a population shift from rural to urban areas, “the gradual increase in the proportion of people living in urban areas”, and the ways in which each society adapts to the change.

It is predominantly the process by which towns and cities are formed and become larger as more people begin living and working in central areas. The global rise of cities has been extraordinary. In 1800, 2% of the world’s population lived in cities. Now the population living in cities is 50%. Every week, some 1.5 million people join the urban population, through a combination of migration and childbirth.

The rapid urbanization of the world’s population over the 20th century is described in the 2005 Revision of the UN World Urbanization Prospects report. The global proportion of urban population rose dramatically from 13% (220 million) in 1900, to 29% (732 million) in 1950, and 49% (3.2 billion) in 2005.

The same report projected that the figure is likely to rise to 60% (4.9 billion) by 2030.It is expected that from 2007 to 2050, the global urban population will nearly double (from 3.3 billion to 6.4 billion), absorbing all population growth and as well as inflows from rural areas.

The United Nations projected that half of the world’s population would live in urban areas at the end of 2008. It is predicted that by 2050 about 64% of the developing world and 86% of the developed world will be urbanized.

The total geographical area of Pakistan is 79.6 million hectares. In this total area, 21.54 million hectares under class I and II. Class I and II land (27.06% of land area) in Pakistan was measured at 27.06% according to the World Bank. Urbanization in Pakistan has increased since the time of independence and has several different causes.

The majority of southern Pakistan’s population lives along the Indus River. During 1990–2008, city residents made up 36% of Pakistan’s population, making it the most urbanized nation in South Asia.

Furthermore, 50% of Pakistanis live in towns of 5,000 people or more. Ultimately colonization project start on agriculture productive land Class I and II to overcome the urban load in Pakistan as well as universe. For this result this is threat for our food security.

Causes of uncontrolled urbanization is that more jobs, more services in the urban side and absence of land in the countryside force people to migrate to larger cities which brings about uncontrolled urbanization. Secondly, another significant reason include: there are better services in cities.

As a matter of fact, transportation is extremely developed so as to make use of time efficiently. Medical services are supported with the latest technological improvements, there are unbelievably modern hospitals. Besides, education is taken into account seriously. There are very high-quality schools with excellent teachers, teaching with up-to-date techniques.

None of these can be found in the rural areas, at this stage. For this, decrease the number of farmers in rural areas and also decrease the agriculture productive land mostly present near the cities. For these reasons swear threat for our food security. We should control the urbanization for global food security.

For this purpose first, of all we should provide all facilities like schools, hospitals, jobs, transportation etc. to people who are living in rural areas so that they cannot move toward cities. Besides, it is becoming very tough fertilizer and other operations for agriculture are much expensive now days.

Farmers migrate toward the big cities for jobs. Government should provide subsidies to farmer for continuing agriculture practices for this we control shrinking of farmers.

Moreover, we should control our population. Over population is dilemma of developing countries. Pakistan is also a developing country and facing the problem of overpopulation which results in the formation of colonies on agriculture productive land class I and II.

For the rapidly increasing of population we required more shelter. Colonies are necessary for shelter, so, we should colonization on those lands which are not fit for agriculture practices. We should strict legislation about urbanization on agriculture productive lands class I and II and must be implicated.
