STAFF REPORT ISB: Ministry of Information Technology (MoIT) is in process of developing a fully automated radio broadcast monitoring system to detect content of interest in live audio and video streams.

The system will be designed to work on `Software as a Service (SAAS) model where end-clients will be able to exploit functionalities of the system over the web. The project called Realtime Automated Broadcast Monitoring and Information Exploitation System is being executed by the National ICT Research and Development Fund in collaboration with TechArete at a coat of Rs 14.32 million by the next year.

According to details, the proposed system will also address challenges of a robust audio-video content matching and the bottleneck of huge computing resource requirement for processing audio-video streams by making innovative use of state-of-the-art many-core processors.

“This project will be extensible to address the problem of other domains which require automated video processing and hence will be an important asset in a world where millions of minutes of video is uploaded each day on the internet,” said an official of the ministry.Extracting useful information from this vast video content has become very critical for local and multinational companies, media houses, regulatory authorities and security agencies.

The current market trend is to make sense of a very small subset of this video content through human operators watching the content and manually transcribing the desired information.
