STAFF REPORT LHR: Mobilink announced the results of the Mobilink Super Engineer Competition 2012, which is an inter-university competition involving teams of students from the leading engineering universities of Pakistan, in which the students attempted real-life engineering projects, assigned by the Mobilink Technical Team.

Finalist teams for “Mobilink Super Engineer 2012” were CASE, NUST and NED. The winning team was presented with an award titled “Mobilink Super Engineer 2012”, while the 1st and 2nd runners up teams also received recognition from senior management. Only winning team gets internship and job interview confirmation. Each of these students will get an opportunity for a job interview at Mobilink. Efforts of all participants will be acknowledged through formal certificates.

Mobilink triggered this initiative as a means to encourage progressive innovation and inducing technological wisdom among aspiring engineers and scientists. Entries were invited from several prestigious engineering institutions like FAST, NUST, UET and GIKI. Each team was assigned a real life engineering project, whereby the key deliverables, resources and timelines were defined. Technical mentors from Mobilink were available to respond to queries from participants.

Sadia Ahmed, Mobilinks Vice President, Human Resources highlighted, “This competition forms a part of Mobilinks broad-based talent recognition drive.

Being a technology driven company, we have always sought innovative adaptations to enhance our offerings to the customers. We firmly believe in the superior aptitude and intelligence inherent in our engineering students and this initiative was an effort to unleash the potential of our scholastic achievers”.

Following the finalization of projects and testing of functionality, the teams were invited to present their projects at the Mobilink premises. The projects were evaluated by a senior technical committee of Mobilink, on a criteria built around; meeting project objectives, creativity, attention to detail, meeting deadline, innovation and overall presentation.

To channel such foresight, an extensive program for promotion of scientific endeavors in Pakistan is highly desirable. Indigenous development of effective technologies can help us avoid expensive imports and technology transfers, while enhancing productivity, minimizing operational costs and reducing capital outlays for our local industries.
