Modern agriculture in Pakistan is the need of day said by the experts and industry stakeholders. Participating delegate share these views at three-day Agriculture Conference, held at Bahauddin Zakriya University in Multan. More than five thousand farmers, with over 600 business exhibiting attended the event.

Dr. Muhammad Asif, Vice Chancellor, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture (MNSUA) addressed the audience and highlighted that government of Punjab has taken the initiatives to address cotton productivity challenges in the province. “research on improving new seed varieties is already underway, and together with the introduction of Plant Breeders Rights Act, farmers will have access to quality seed in the coming years”, he further added.

Azeem Niazi Monsanto Pakistan’s Corporate Engagement Lead speaking on occasion said that “The future of the agriculture depends on the adaptation of the new agricultural technologies if real progress is to be made our policies and regulation frame work must keep it pace with the rapidly evolving agriculture sector.”

He further added that “The enactment of Plant Breeders Rights Act is one such positive step towards creating a business enabling environment for the industry, however sufficient execution remains a worry because of the absence of institutional capacity.”

The Fundamental part of the agriculture value chain is plant breeding and has to play an important role in producing variety of seeds that meet various considerations, including crop productivity, climate change, resource scarcity and pest attack.
