STAFF REPORT LHR: A one-day workshop on Fish Culture Techniques was held to mark the World Fisheries Day. The emphasize on fish culture and modern techniques was made to boost the fish production and make it a viable and profitable commodity.


The speakers apprised the participants that as many as 158 million tons of fish are produced by natural processes and fish farming with more than 50 million people associated with fish industry.


Director General, Punjab Fisheries Department, Muhammad Ayub was present on the occasion. He said, “Fish industry has huge scope keeping in view the rising demand of white meat and its numerous health benefits. A range of new technologies of aquaculture including Cage and Race Way Culture, Pro Biotics Technology are practiced worldwide and Pakistan must also employ these techniques”.


It was enumerated that breeding of all species of fish, through artificial insemination, was going on at Biodiversity Hatchery Chashma Barrage and these baby fish released in the Indus river system so that these varieties could be secured.
