STAFF REPORT PESH: An MoU has recently been signed between University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar and KP Science and Technology and Information Technology (STandIT) department to resolve the energy crisis in the province.

The agreement is aimed to better utilise renewable energy resources. UET Vice Chancellor Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gillani and STandIT Secretary Farah Hamid Khan signed the MoU.

As per the agreement, a state-of-the-art laboratory will be established at UET to test and certify a solar photovoltaic system, whereby solar energy is used to produce electricity.

“The lab will be built at US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCAS-E),” read the statement. “It will cost Rs47 million. The K-P Directorate of Science and Technology will provide Rs50 million to the USPCAS-E to develop products that can help resolve energy problems.”

Gillani said the initiative will enable faculty members and researchers to meet global challenges. “It will also ensure facilities are offered at the laboratory at the varsity,” the statement quoted him as saying.

Speaking on the occasion, Hamid said the provincial government will continue to support UET to resolve the energy crisis through innovative and viable research projects.
