The departments of Clinical Medicine & Surgery (CMS) and Parasitology of the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore organized 2-day national workshop on “Role of migratory birds in disease dissemination” sponsored by Punjab Agriculture Research Board (PARB) and one more workshop on “Handling and Restraining of Migratory Birds with Tick Identification” by HEC.

The concluding session of the workshops chaired by VC Prof Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha who has also distributed certificates among the participants. The resource persons of the session were Prof Dr. Shahid Karim from the University of Mississippi USA, Prof Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani and Dr. Imran Rasheed.

Prof Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha stressed on developing linkages and taking steps for prevention of diseases spread through migratory birds and further in his talk appreciated organizers and participants from different organizations and universities in Pakistan.

The workshop aimed to highlight importance of migratory birds in ecosystem and threats faced by species in Pakistan. The threat of diseases dissemination through these birds was stressed during the workshop when they visit Pakistan in winter by means of Indus flyway. Different measures to curtail danger of diseases by these birds recommended in the workshop.
