STAFF REPORT SIALKOT: The Punjab government is actively considering to establish more small industrial estates to facilitate the SMEs, vendors and manufacturers of the city.

“The step is being taken on the pressing demands of local trade bodies including Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) to accommodate the vendors and manufacturers of the city,” said an official while talking to this scribe.

He said that after conducting a joint survey by the Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) in collaboration of the SCCI seven sites have been identified for setting up proposed Small Industrial Estates. These estates will be established along with entrance roads for accommodating industrial vendors, suppliers and service providers for setting up their workplaces.

At present, there is only one industrial estate in the city which is unable to cater to the needs of growing number of vendors resultantly hundreds of small vendors and manufacturers were scattered in far-off places around the city and unable buy a small piece of land for setting up their manufacturing units.

Sialkot is a hub cottage industry and almost all products manufactured in these industries and exported to international market and hold a substantial share in total exports of Pakistan. The work on proposed industrial estates will be carried out in near future, sources added.
