The most common thing to hear is power pilferage. To encounter this matter, the NTDC in collaboration with MUET Jamshoro started the use of modern technology to expose power robbery.
Keeping in mind, the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) and Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro keep an eye on high-tech to supervise and secure 500 and 220kV transmission lines towers in the southern region.
The MUET’s telecom department has developed a Remote Monitoring and Intrusion Detection System, based on hardware and software along with a CCTV camera. The system would help control the robbery of towers and transmission line material.
Moreover, a GSM technology based CCTV camera will be installed on transmission line towers which will ring an alarm to the control room without delay in case of any infringement around the tower. Furthermore, the surveillance system will be energized through solar power system.
To expose the power pilferage the demonstration was performed by the MUET team on tower location No. 428 of 500kV Dadu-Jamshoro transmission line and the surveillance system responded productively.
