STAFF REPORT IBD: The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, has recently hosted an event called the Science Bee at the School of Chemical and Materials Engineering (SCME).

various teams of students from neighbouring high schools and colleges of the federal capital and Rawalpindi as well as undergraduate freshmen from universities participated in the competition.

The competition tested the overall scientific ability and knowledge of the students. The first round, called Mind Buzz, tested the students analytical thinking. This was followed by the “Compound Eyes” round which tested their grasping power. Then the students were given an experiment to perform in the third round, “Sting Mode”. 5 teams qualified for the final “Rapid Fire” round which tested their responsiveness.

Alongside the “Bee”, the participants and students in general were given the option to take the “Mensa IQ Test” which is held each year by the “International Mensa High IQ Society”, the oldest of its kind in the world.

The chief guest of the ceremony was Ali Moeen Nawazish, the renowned student activist who created a world record in his A Level exams and also received the Pride of Performance Award.

According to the results, Team Scientific Zephyr, Islamabad Model College, got the first prize, Team Emenents, CEME remained second while Team Al-Shabab, SMME, NUST, was declared third position holders.
