STAFF REPORT ISB: Over 80 percent work on the Olive Cultivation Project has been completed so far in the selected areas during past two and a half years, PARC Member Coordination and Monitoring and National Project Director Olive, Dr. Munir said.


“Plantation of 310,000 olive plants at an area of 1260 hectares has been completed so far and as per the project the plantation would be carried out on 1500 hectares of land in the selected area,” he said while commenting on the progress of the project.


The Olive Promotional Project is funded by government of Italy, aiming at promoting olive cultivation in the country that would not only help farmers to boost their incomes but would reduce dependence on oil imports.


Dr. Munir said that under the project as many as seven olive nurseries were established all across the country which include two in Baluchistan, two in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two in Punjab and one in FATA.


The project has also establishment and managed olive mother blocks at all provincial components which will be useful for propagation of true to type olive plants, he said.
