STAFF REPORT KHI: Two Pakistani teenagers have got fourth place and cash $500 award at the Grand Awards Ceremony of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair held recently in Pittsburgh.
These genius students – Mahnoor Hassan, Shiza Gulab and Bushra Shahed – were the selected people among 1,549 students across the world. They students of Peshawars Institute of Computer and Management Sciences created a titled: Energy Square for Cattle, to grab fourth prize in the Animal Sciences Category.
According to details, this is not the first time the Pakistani students are recognized and awarded at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Pakistani students have continued to participate in the globally renowned contest and declared winners many times since 2006.
In 2011, young scientists Ambreen and Mehwish Ghafoor from the Federal Government College for Women, G-10/4 Islamabad, had exhibited their research project titled “Degradation of Environmental Pollutants using Nano Composites” under Environmental Sciences Category and won accolades for Pakistan by securing third position.
In 2008, three bright students from Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Karachi and the 12th grader, Sara Moez Ali, Zahra Suleman Tejani and Arif Pyarali had won the first position cash prize $1,000 by the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
They had presented their project titled “Novel Drug Therapy of Silver Nano Particles to cure M.R.S.A infections” having conducted rigorous experiments to develop a cure for infectious diseases without affecting the surrounding cells.
