STAFF REPORT IBD: The PAK-TURK International Schools and Colleges have recently organized the 9th Inter-Schools Maths Olympiad in Islamabad, where around 11,000 students recorded their presence. Students of 5th to 8th classes participated in the contest held simultaneously organized through the country.


The competition WAS arranged to provide opportunity to the students of primary and middle classes, to exhibit their talent and get recognition as well as the awards. The main objective behind conducting this competition is to prepare Pakistani students to participate in the International Mathematics Olympiad irrespective of their school.


The competition provided a chance for students of class 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th to prove their potential and get prizes ranging from Rs1,000 to Rs30,000. The prize money motivated students besides helping deserving students to prepare to take part in the International Olympiads.


In Federal Capital, the contest was held at Chak Shahzad, H-8 and G-10 campuses.The purpose of the ISMO was to promote interest and excellence in mathematics, besides encouraging the talent. This event provided an opportunity of international standards for students to solve the challenging problems.


The top three position holders got cash prizes of Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000 while the top position holder student of class 8th has been awarded with title of Al-Khwarzmi of Pakistan which will remain with him until 10th ISMO, scheduled next year.


Federal SandT Minister Zahid Hamid, former Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi and Turkish Ambassador Babur Hizlan were also present on the occasion.
