STAFF REPORT IBD: Aftab Ahmad Chattha, a PhD scholar, from the School of Biological Sciences, University of the Punjab, has recently participated as Young Scientist Member of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2012.

According to a message received here, the annual meeting of the New Champions-2012 titled “Creating the future Economy” was held in Tianjin, China last week.

Each year 40-50 young researchers from all over the world join the meeting along with more than 1500 participants. At these meetings, young researchers interact with world leaders (government officials, policy makers, businessmen, industrialists etc) and give them details about advancements in their respective fields.

The interaction results in more sustainable policies for the future world economy. This year Aftab joined as young scientist from Pakistan.

Aftab is also serving as President of National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS) Pakistan and member of Global Young Academy (GYA) as well as group leader of Science for Youth (S4Y) project. He has also selected as Young Scientist of 2012 by the Inter Academy Panel (IAP).

Aftab was honored as “Smart Scientist” in 2006 by COMSTECH, Islamabad and awarded as best young investigator award in 2009 by Pakistan Cardiac Society. He has represented Pakistan at several international forums in different countries.
