Internet has eased up our lives at various levels but along with its bad part like cyber threats looming on the Internet and turns out, Pakistanis may be more prone to these attacks than other people.

Pakistan is an immense risk of cyber-attacks, ranked second after Bangladesh on Microsoft’s list that has a high encounter rate with malware according to Microsoft Global Security Intelligence Report to explore software vulnerabilities and exploits, malware, and unwanted software.

Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Egypt are listed as most prone to attack and having an average monthly encounter rate of 24% with malware. Encounter rate of Pakistan fallen between 27.8%, 24.9%, and 26.2% in the first three months according to Q1 statistics.

Furthermore, common threats in Pakistan counted in Win32/Nuqel, Ippedo, and Win32/Tupym. All aforementioned worms are predominant in Pakistan because they are not top on the radars of security firms. Win32 is top 5 cyber threats in Pakistan that are ranked 35th in the world.

High encounter rate with malware and other cybersecurity threats in Pakistan show how incompetently prepared we are as a nation. Symantec Corporation, a digital security company, reported that Pakistan and India had been hit by a cyber-spying campaign. Though, Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency said it had not received any reports of malware incidents from government’s Information Technology departments.

India, China, and Nepal were all ranked much lower on the list showing a general trend of high malware occurrence in developing countries.
