Pakistan Navy has launched a campaign in the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan titled as “Pakistan Navy – Mangroves Plantation Campaign 2017” on this Independence Day that will plant around 1 million mangroves in step with government’s vision of plantation.

Naval Staff Chief Admiral Muhammad inaugurated the campaign by planting plantlet of mangroves.

The campaign demands to plant over 1 million mangroves in coastal areas.

Journalists, senior military, and civil officials, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), officials from federal and provincial forest departments, representatives from business community has graced the inaugural ceremony by their presence,

The chief guest lamented deforestation of mangroves that have affected biodiversity and livings of coastal peoples.

Zakaullah said that these campaigns will play a key role in increasing awareness about the importance of forest along with increasing the mangrove forest cover.

The naval chief commended the relevant federal, provincial institutions and all units of the society to play their part for this noble cause. He declared that the campaign will be ‘National Campaign for Mangroves Plantation 2017’ while emphasizing the importance of mangroves.

He said that independence is a great virtue, “Let us pledge that we will value it and perform duties with honesty and contribute to making our country greater” in his Independence Day message.
