Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhary, talked about ‘The Future Summit’ being held in Karachi, focusing on agritech’s, precision agriculture, biotech park in partnership with Saudi Arabia and UAE.

Pakistan pursues Saudi & UAE agritech's partnershipAccording to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics that agriculture as the largest sector of the Pakistan’s economy, contributes 24 percent to the country’s GDP.

He told that Pakistan has invited Saudi Arabia and the UAE to finance as partners in the country’s rapidly growing technology sector, mainly for the utilization of biotechnology in agriculture, or agritech.

He said “We want to take public-private partnership in the manufacturing of batteries, and in precision agriculture, an approach for farm management with the use of information technology”.

He further said his ministry has established the concept of a state-of-the-art “biotechnology park.” We have received interest from UAE while Pakistani investors living in European countries are also coming forward in the biotechnology park.

In Pakistan, still farmers using age old methods of conventional farming, which has hindered growth in its agricultural sector, coupled with water-shortages and the effects of climate change.

Science minister said his department was try to incorporate agritech into better farming practices. They are working on the manufacturing and registration of specialized drones to be used in agricultural zones.
