Khurram Dastgir Khan, Federal Minister for Commerce gone with a delegation of Pakistan to take part in the inaugural session of the Joint Commission between Pakistan and Senegal. The session was detained in Dakar, Senegal. Senegalese delegation was headed by Alioune Sarr, Minister for Commerce, Informal Sector, Consumption, Promotion of Local Products, and SMEs. As a sideline session B2B meeting was held between private businessmen and Senegalese businessmen from textiles, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals sectors.
Both sides have underscored the area of a partnership like pharmaceutical industries, investment, agriculture, textiles, higher education and vocational training, information technology, air transport and tourism. Pakistan needs to seek help from Senegal for trading in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).
Both countries consent for signing an agreement “the Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Fiscal Evasion” as soon as possible. Pakistanis have highlighted capacity-building programs offered by Pakistan Technical Assistance Program (PTAP). The Senegalese expressed their will of training in line with Senegal’s priority policies and programs.
They have also made arrangements for setting up of air and sea links. Pakistan has proposed a Draft Air Services Agreement of the Senegalese will respond to draft as soon as possible. They have consented for cooperation between the Port of Dakar and Karachi Port (KPT) for enhancing trade. The exchange of experiences between both countries in maritime education and training and Technical Port Management.
Pakistan and Senegal has signed the following agreements: “The Agreement on Cooperation in Combating the Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Precursor Chemicals” & “The memorandum of understanding between the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Senegal.”
In addition to JMC, Commerce Minister, Khurram Dastgir Khan had a meeting with President of Senegal Macky Sall and conveyed a message of the Pakistan’s PM and reported him the conclusion of 1st Pak-Senegal Joint Ministerial Commission. The commerce minister gifted 1000 footballs made in Pakistan for the Senegalese football association and a special gift of premium basmati rice of Pakistan for the dignitaries of Senegal.
