STAFF REPORT ISB: The students of PakTurk have stolen the 11th National Intel Science and Engineering Fair, 2015-Islamabad, by winning 1 Grand-Winner Award, 11 Best of Category Awards and 4 Special Awards on 24 classified projects.

According to the results, Shadab Rasool Buriro of PakTurk International Schools and Colleges, Khairpur Campus, was declared the Grand Winner at the contest. Now he will represent Pakistan at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2015, to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in May this year.

Intel Education Initiative organized the Science Fair at the Sir Syed Memorial Complex in Islamabad in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Pakistan Science Foundation and Ministry of Science and Technology.

The individual projects winners were Habab Idress from Dewan Dayaram Jethmal Sindh Government Science college Karachi, Shadad Rasool, Buriro Pak Turk International Schools and Colleges Kahairpur and Muhammad Ahsan Nawaz, Government Higher Secondary School, Vehari.

The group projects winners included Amir Hussain Khan, Ali Ahmed Karim, Kiran Karim, Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Karimabad, Karachi. Aurangzeb Ahmed, Tohami Bin Shafiq, Syed Ali Ahsen, Beaconhouse School System, Lahore.

The event showcased 94 science projects submitted by 197 young scientists from all four provinces after rigorous competition at district and provincial levels. Winners of the fair have qualified to compete in the ISEF, showcasing their talent on an international platform for over $5 million in prizes and scholarships.

According to the panel of jurists, selected carefully keeping in view their professional rankings, all the participants hailing from classified educational institutions of the country were competent enough in their assignments and worked hard in making their projects.

“One of the core outcomes of education is to produce productive citizens and role models for tomorrow, which we can achieve only by enabling students in becoming acquainted with and excelling in technology,” said Intel Pakistan Country Manager Naveed Siraj, while addressing on the occasion.

He said that by holding this annual event, Intel Pakistan is keeping its years long tradition of holding science competition among the shining students of various educational institutions across the country.

He also said that it is a point of prestige that the Pakistani students have got international recognition and gained valuable exposure through this platform, while at the same time they are showing the real potential for Pakistan around the world.

“I would like to thank all students who have participated in the Science Fairs at all the qualifying levels, and wish the winning teams the best of luck in Pittsburgh,” he said.

Chief guest of the occasion, Additional Secretary CAandDD, Qaiser Majeed Malik, along with Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Chairman PSF, President ECOSF Prof. Dr. Manzoor H. Soomro and Director Education PakTurk ICEF, Kamil Ture, awarded prizes to the winning students.

It is worth mentioning here that many of the provincial winners were already from respective branches of PakTurk schools and colleges.

The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair is the largest pre-college scientific research event in the world and is owned and administered by the Society for Science and the Public, a non-profit organization based in Washington. Each May, more than 1500 students from roughly 70 countries and territories arrive to compete in the fair for scholarships, tuition grants, internships, scientific field trips and the grand prizes, including one $75,000 and two $50,000 college scholarships. All prizes together amount to over $4,000,000. Two awards ceremonies are held including: Special Awards Organization Presentation, which now includes the Government Awards Presentations, and the Grand Awards Ceremony. The International Science and Engineering Fair was founded in 1950 by Science Service and has been sponsored by the Intel Corporation since 1997.
