PCRWR, Korean agency to set up water quality institute

STAFF REPORT IBD: The  Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) is setting up a water quality institute in collaboration with the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Islamabad. KOICA will provide a grant of $3 million for the establishment of the institute.

According to a press release, the proposed institute would impart training courses at certificate and diploma level to the existing staff associated with water supply agencies as well as to the fresh entrants to become part of such agencies in future.

A three-member Korean delegation has recently visited Pakistan and met Federal Secretaries, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs Division and Chairman, PCRWR. It was also assured that all possible support will be extended to KOICA-PMC and government of of Pakistan for early execution of the project.

A detail meeting was also held with Dr M. Aslam Tahir, Chairman, PCRWR to work out the modalities of the project and the commitment level of PCRWR was communicated to KOICA for the project.

The company will highlight that safe drinking water plays a crucial role in the achievement of economic and environmental goals through academic productivity and professional leadership.
