Due to lack of funds worth over Rs150 million Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has suspended the free Wi-Fi facility at public places in 20 cities across Punjab.

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) disclosed that, The free Wi-Fi service at public places was started in pursuit with the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), but the government has failed to pay dues worth over Rs150 million.

Approximately Rs 190 million was required to keep the service functional across Punjab but the project was dub with burden on the exchequer thus it was discontinued, as there was no allocation for the project in the new budget so it won’t be attainable to endow citizens with this service.

PITB was offering free Wi-Fi facility at different educational and government institutions offered in many Punjab cities including Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, and Bahawalpur and was extended to Rawalpindi and Multan. But due to the suspension of this facility, citizens deteriorate.
