STAFF REPORT IBD: Exhibition of medicinal and aromatic plants has recently been held at the Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH) in order to bring together herb collectors, sale agents, herbal processing units, traders, exporters, hakeems, pansars and people from research and academia.
The event was jointly organised by PMNH, in collaboration with Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) and National Rural Support Program (NRSP).
“This project aimed to help and support far flung rural communities and revitalise appropriate and rational utilization of MAPS under value chain marketing practices,” said Dr Ikram Ur Rehman, Technical Specialist NRSP, while addressing on the occasion.
He said that the project undertakes all the conservation measures to preserve the habitat and re-generate the species where they are endangered, vulnerable or threatened.
In his remarks, Acting Chairman PSF Khalil Ahmad said that exhibitions are the main market promotions activities for achieving objectives of MAPs value chain development.
Through strong linkages development, he said, the sale agents would be for selling their value added products at high prices in local and national markets.
“We are together for successful outcome of the project through all possible effort and linking the sale agents with end users and customers”.
Exhibition included display of medicinal plants specimens by NRSP, PMNH products by herbal processing units and presentations of some experts and hakeems.
