STAFF REPORT ISB:While brushing aside the rumours about the coal power projects having negative impacts on environment, Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali has said that the on-going coal projects are absolutely ecologically friendly.


He was talking in a meeting with Ambassador of Poland Andrzej Ananicz, who had called on him here. During the meeting, the minister said that Pakistan had lots of opportunities for coal fired power plants and added that the vision of the prime minister was to overcome the energy crisis on war footing to make the country energy rich.


On the occasion, Andrzej Ananicz informed that Poland was producing 90 per cent of its energy from coal-fired power plants. It has gradually converted all plants from oil into coal and introduced the latest technology.


He also informed that the group of investors who are interested in investing in coal power plants would visit Pakistan next month. He offered technical support and capacity building for Pakistani experts. The minister appreciated the ambassador for his visit and offering support to the energy sector of Pakistan.
