Government has asked UN to offer technical support in promoting the culture of research and innovation in the country.

Pakistan has taken many initiatives to promote the culture of research and innovation and is focusing on building advanced technology parks in Pakistan said federal minister for science and technology and defense production Rana Tanveer Hussain in a meeting under the Secretary-General, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

He said NUST and COMSAT have already taken initiative and if UN’s Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) will provide technical assistance Pakistan will appreciate this.

Dr. Shamshad Akhtar valued the role played by the ministry of science and technology for the promotion of research and technology culture in Pakistan.

To ensure better regional connectivity and socio-economic development for the entire region, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar also ensured her organizational support.

She requested for the list of best researchers or scientists of Pakistan to minister so that UNESCAP could explore new paths of cooperation for the development of science and technology, said the under secretary general.

Rana Tanveer Hussain said that UNESCAP’s assistance to Pakistan to uplift science and technology sector will be a commendable gesture.
