P4 promotin Fishries i_optSTAFF REPORT PSR: The consultant of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), Omar Hayat, has called for initiating concrete steps for the development of fisheries and agriculture sectors in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

“Fisheries and production of off-seasonal vegetables are the potential sectors of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and capable of generating employment and guaranteeing of food security of the people,” said Omar while talking to media here.

He said that under the devolution plan, the posts of Assistant Directors are abolished in several districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa including Swabi, Hangu, Abbottahad and others. He said that the restoration of the abolished posts is prerequisite for the development of the sector.

Omar Hayat said that one hatchery can generate an income of Rs 0.6 million for the owners and provision of employment for at least two persons. He said that the potential trout fish has demand both in local and foreign markets and can earn millions of foreign exchange for the country. He said the cold water of different districts of Malakand Division, including Dir, Chitral, Swat and Hazara is providing suitable environment for trout hatcheries.
