STAFF REPORT LHR: Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF) has launched third round of its one of the largest training schemes, Skills for Job 2014-15 awarding contracts of Rs 1.7 billion to 44 training service providers.
Purpose of this initiative is to train more than 24,000 individuals from seven districts of Punjab including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Chiniot, Sargodha, Gujranwala and Narowal.
A multitude of training institutes from public and private sector are involved to deliver quality vocational training in 118 multiple trades under the scheme.
“PSDF has trained more than 55,000 individuals from 14 districts of Punjab. The current scheme would further contribute in developing employable workforce for the country, which would make a great asset for the labour abundant Pakistan,” said PSDF Chief Executive Officer Ali Sarfraz.
Due to the informal vocational and technical trainings system prevalent across the country, our manpower remains unable to command better wages in the local as well as international job markets, which hinders the prospective economic, he added.
PSDF has launched most of its training schemes after rigorous market research to meticulously gauge the labour market needs. Besides it ensures affluent opportunities of income generation for its funded trainees.
The particular scheme would offer trainings in various innovative trades from construction, hospitality, information technology, automobiles, mechanical, textiles and service sectors.
PSDF funds vocational training organisations are providing vocational and skills training to the population of fourteen districts of South Punjab-Bahawalpur, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalnagar, Vehari, Khaewal, Rahimyar Khan, Lahore, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Chiniot, Narowal and Sheikhupura.
